All K12USA appliance based services require that they be connected to a UPS that has good batteries. Not doing so can cause unnecessary and unexpected downtime. However, maintaining a UPS is just one more thing for network administrators to worry about. It requires periodic load testing, battery replacement every few years, and proper disposal of the old batteries.

UPS maintenance is often overlooked because it's the part of the network that no one ever sees or interacts with. Problems in the UPS system are often discovered when the UPS systems fail to keep the protected equipment online during a power event. These problems may not have happened if the UPS maintenance was done regularly. PowerTrakker takes away those worries and most of the work with a simple subscription service.

PowerTrakker is a Managed UPS Service offered for all K12USA appliance based services. We will provide you with one UPS per appliance. That UPS will provide clean, reliable power to the appliance to minimize downtime and damage due to power surges, brownouts, and blackouts. The UPS will keep power going to the appliance for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, if the power is still out the UPS signals the appliance to shut down. This minimizes the risk of lost data and hardware damage due to an unexpected loss of power.

As part of the subscription, every three years we will send you a new UPS. You then simply shutdown the appliance, plug it into the new UPS, and send the old UPS back to us. No complicated battery swap outs are required, and no worrying about how to properly dispose of the batteries.

The UPS unit you'll get is very simple and easy to install. It's a 1U rack mount device that's less than 10 inches deep and weighs less than 20 lbs. The unit is easily installed by one person.
