Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

1 min read

Summary #

The Malwarebytes Anti-Malware software needs to connect to the Internet to download updates.  The default method of connecting tries going direct and does not support proxy autodetection.  You need to configure Malwarebytes to use the proxy, or make holes in the firewall to allow the traffic.

More Information #

The auto-updater for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, by default, will try to connect directly to the Internet to get it’s updates.  The safest way to configure the updates is to tell it about your SecureSchool appliance by configuring the proxy server settings.

First, you have to configure to SecureSchool to allow the updates to go through without authentication.

  1. Go to “Website Filtering” -> “Authentication Exceptions”
  2. Add an entry for data-cdn.mbamupdates.com
  3. Click on “Commit Changes”, then “Restart”

Now that SecureSchool is setup to allow the updates, you have to configure Malwarebytes to use the proxy server.

  1. Launch the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware program
  2. Go to the “Settings” tab”
  3. Go to the “Updater Settings” sub-tab

You’ll have a screen that looks like this:

  1. Check the box “Use proxy server to download updates”
  2. Enter your SecureSchool’s IP address for the “Proxy Server” field
  3. Enter the proxy port for the “Port” field

Once the data is in, go to the “Update” tab and click the “Check for Updates” button.  This will then download and install the updates.
