Summary #

A few changes need to be made to access NJ Smart’s website.

More Information #

There are a few steps to make NJ Smart’s website accessible through SecureSchool. Some of their website will not be able to go through the proxy and you will have to make rules to allow it to bypass SecureSchool’s proxy.

  1. Make a few port access rules. Go to  Website Filtering > pick the proper filter set > Port Access > Add An Allowed Port Rule > Port: 563 > Type: SSL/HTTPS > Site: njsmart.org > Submit. Do the same thing for ports 5553,5353 and 8081.
  2. Make an authentication exception for njsmart.org by going to “Website Filtering” -> “Authentication Exceptions” -> “Add A Site” and add njsmart.org. Click “Submit” to finish.
  3. Make the site njsmart.org be unfiltered by going to “Website Filtering” -> “Website Access” -> pick a filter set -> “Add a Site” and add njsmart.org to be an unfiltered site.
  4. Create a firewall rule to allow traffic to NJ Smart’s servers by going to “Firewall” -> “Protocol Rules” -> “Add A Rule” -> “Rule Name”: something that makes sense -> “Type”: Allow -> “Protocol”: TCP or UDP -> “Direction”: All Inside Interfaces -> “Source Address”: Any -> “Source Port”: leave blank -> “Destination Address” Type Host Name: www.njsmart.org -> “Destination Port”: leave blank -> Submit. Do the same thing for host name dev.njsmart.org.
  5. Make a proxy exception in your browser. For Internet Explorer:
    • Go to “Tools” -> “Internet Options”
    • Click on the “Connections” tab
    • Click on the “LAN Settings” button
    • Click on the “Advanced” button next to the proxy information
    • Towards the bottom of the box, there is a box for Exceptions.  Enter two host names www.njsmart.org and dev.njsmart.org. Make sure to separate the entries with a semi-colon (;).
    • Click all of the “OK” buttons to close out of the dialog boxes.

If you need to make the exceptions for www.njsmart.org and dev.njsmart.org for more than one workstation you need to add those two sites to your group policy for Internet Explorer or, if you’re using the proxy auto detect method, add them to SecureSchool’s list of exceptions by going to “Setup” -> “Proxy Config Script” > “Add an Exception”.
