The preferred way to setup proxies on a network is using Proxy Auto Detect.  Before you continue with these directions, you should follow the directions at Proxy Auto Detect (WPAD) to configure your network to support Proxy Auto Detect.  Once that is done, perform these steps to configure your OS X workstation / server:

  1. Go to “System Preferences” -> “Network”.  You’ll get a screen similar to the following one:
  2. On the left, select the network card that is connected to the network.  If the computer is on a wired Ethernet connection, select “Ethernet”.  If it is wireless, select “AirPort”.  Once you’ve selected a network card, click on “Advanced…”, then click the “Proxies” header.
  3. Check the box “Auto Proxy Discovery”
  4. Click “OK” to close that window, then “Apply” to close the Network properties.

Once that is done, the workstation will discover the proxy settings from your SecureSchool / ISBossBox / LibraryDoor appliance.

  3. Check the box for “Web Proxy (HTTP)” and enter the IP address for your SecureSchool appliance, and the correct proxy port.  Do the same for “Secure Web Proxy (HTTPS)”.
  4. Click “OK” to save and close the proxy settings, then click “Apply” to save and close the Network properties.
