Why are some WebMailPRO attachments blocked by default?

Summary #

Some attachments are blocked by default as a security feature.

More Information #

The vast majority of viruses spread themselves by sending an executable program file (or a zip file containing one) to users. Many users then open them and set in motion the automatic spreading mechanism to send out hundreds or thousands of new email messages. These executable files such as .EXE, .COM, etc., are themselves harmless to a user of our mail system until the user attempts to download and open them. This feature was created so that users will not be able to download these potentially harmful files.

You can turn off this security feature by going to Global Settings > WebMailPRO Global Settings and check the box for “Allow Downloading of Executable Attachments”. Click “Save Settings” when finished.

YNote that you can specify specific groups for downloading different types of attachments. Go to our knowledge base article Allowing certain attachments for some users but not others for more details.
