Allowing Netflix Through SecureSchool

1 min read

📖 Overview #

Netflix requires access to several domains and streaming services that may be restricted by SecureSchool’s filtering and anti-proxy protections.

To allow Netflix to function properly, you will need to:

  • Adjust specific filtering settings
  • Add required Netflix domains to the allow list
  • Apply authentication exceptions
  • Restart services to apply changes

⚙️ Step 1 – Adjust Filtering & Anti-Proxy Settings #

Go to the following sections and update settings for the filter sets where Netflix should be allowed:

🔹 Task Center → Anti-Proxy Center

  • Select the appropriate Filter Set(s) at the top
  • Uncheck Block IP Addresses
  • Click Save Settings

🔹 Task Center → Anti-File Sharing

  • Select the appropriate Filter Set(s)
  • Uncheck Block IP Addresses
  • Click Save Settings

🔹 Task Center → Anti-Streaming Media Center

  • Select the appropriate Filter Set(s)
  • Uncheck Block Streaming MIME Types

🔹 Website Filtering → Filter Setup

  • Select the appropriate Filter Set(s) from the dropdown at the top of the page
  • Uncheck Block IP Addresses

🌐 Step 2 – Add Netflix Domains #

Go to:
Website Filtering → Website Access → Add a Site

Copy and paste the following domains all at once into the Website Addresses field:

netflix.com
nflxext.com
nflximg.net
nflximg.com
nflxsearch.net
nflxso.net
nflxvideo.net

Then configure the following:

  • Reason for Change: Example: Allow access to Netflix
  • Filtering: Select Unfiltered
  • Port Access: Leave default (Add Port Access Rules)
  • Filter Sets: Select the appropriate groups (for example: Students, Staff, etc.)

Click Submit.

🔐 Step 3 – Add Authentication Exceptions #

Go to:
Website Filtering → Authentication Exceptions → Add a Website

  • Website Address: nflximg.com
    Reason: Allow Netflix

Repeat for:

  • nflximg.net

🔄 Step 4 – Apply Changes #

  • Click Commit Changes
  • Restart services and filter sets when prompted

⚠️ Common Issues & Troubleshooting #

🔸 Filter Set Mismatch

Make sure all changes were applied to the correct filter set(s) (for example: Students vs. Staff vs. Admins).

👉 This is the most common issue.

🔸 “Block IP Addresses” Still Enabled

If this setting is still checked anywhere, Netflix traffic may bypass domain rules and still be blocked.

Double-check this setting in:

  • Filter Setup
  • Anti-Proxy Center
  • Anti-File Sharing

🔸 Authentication Not Bypassed

If users are required to authenticate, Netflix images or content may fail to load.

Confirm these are added under Authentication Exceptions:

  • nflximg.com
  • nflximg.net

🔸 Changes Not Applied

  • Click Commit Changes
  • Restart services
