Allowing Akuvox Intercom Devices Through the SecureSchool Firewall
#
Overview
#
This article explains how to allow Akuvox intercom devices through the SecureSchool firewall by allowing
akuvox.com. Some Akuvox intercom devices require outbound access to Akuvox cloud services in order to
function properly (device registration, media services, configuration updates, and remote management).
While Akuvox provides detailed firewall documentation listing multiple domains and ports, SecureSchool customers
only need a simple configuration change to allow these devices to work correctly.
Required SecureSchool Configuration
#
To allow Akuvox intercom traffic, complete both of the steps below.
Step 1: Add akuvox.com to the Proxy Exception List
#
This ensures that Akuvox device traffic bypasses web proxy inspection, which can interfere with device
authentication and media services.
- Log in to the SecureSchool Admin Interface
- Navigate to: Filtering → Proxy → Proxy Exceptions
- Add the following domain:
akuvox.com - Save your changes
Note: Adding the parent domain automatically covers all required Akuvox subdomains.
Step 2: Add akuvox.com to the Website Allowed List
#
This ensures that SecureSchool’s web filtering does not block Akuvox cloud communication.
- Navigate to: Filtering → Website Allowed List
- Add:
akuvox.com - Save your changes
No Additional Port or IP Rules Required
#
At this time, the following are not required when using SecureSchool:
- No custom port forwarding rules
- No individual subdomain entries
- No static IP whitelisting
SecureSchool’s default outbound firewall behavior, combined with the steps above, is sufficient for Akuvox intercom devices.
Vendor Reference (Akuvox Firewall Settings)
#
Akuvox provides its own detailed firewall and network guidance for SmartPlus Cloud services, including recommended
domains and port ranges. This documentation is for reference only and is not required when using SecureSchool:

SecureSchool simplifies these requirements by allowing the parent domain rather than requiring manual configuration of each service endpoint.
Troubleshooting Tips
#
If the intercom is still not connecting after applying the changes:
- Reboot the Akuvox device
- Allow several minutes for policy and DNS updates to take effect
- Confirm the device is using SecureSchool for outbound traffic
